In a show of solidarity and community service, South Sudanese students studying in Moyo District on Saturday, carried out a charitable activity by cleaning Moyo Main Market.
The exercise was part of activities being observed during Sanitation Week, as the Government of Uganda joins the rest of the world in promoting cleanliness and hygiene, especially in public places.
Chandari Sauda, the Health Inspector for Moyo Town Council, said the health department remains committed to sustaining public health standards through regular cleaning activities and preventive health education.
“On behalf of Moyo Town Council, I really want to appreciate you people for the positive move you have taken to stand with us and clean the market. May you continue with that spirit,” she said.
According to Sigil Geoffrey, the Deputy Speaker of Moyo Town Council, the South Sudanese students demonstrated a commendable spirit of responsibility and cooperation.
“I really want to give thanks to you, the South Sudanese students. May Almighty God reward and bless you people,” he noted.
Akoro Mary Deng, the President of the association, said the initiative reflects peaceful coexistence and unity among communities.
“This is one of the signs of peace. When people gather and do things together, it brings unity. This is the motive of the association,” Mary said.
She further called for unity among all South Sudanese students studying in Uganda.
The South Sudanese students’ association also revealed plans to lead Sunday Mass, visit Moyo Babies Home during Easter Sunday, and later conduct an exchange visit to Kajo-Keji County in South Sudan for a debate.
