The local leaders in Westnile Region have called upon the Government to increase Budget allocations to the various sectors to enhance effective service delivery.
This was during the annual Budget Consultative conference in Arua District where the accounting officers and other delegates discussed challenges facing government program implementation calling for enhancement in budget allocations.
Oyolo James chairperson Zombo District appeals to the Government to increase the budget for infrastructure in the coming financial year to ease work in the district.
“The one billion how I wished this should be increased to 2 billion why because in zombo district we have very many streams and valleys which needs bigger culvert to fit that will require additional money, lf government can improve and give us like 2 billion proposed by His Excellence during our meeting I think that will be our joy”.
Meanwhile the chairperson koboko district Mambo Ashraf say it is important for their cry of budget allocation increment to be taken into consideration.
“Our proposal was that money must be allocated deliberately though they have given a small funding it’s not worth it, for example when you are giving 6 million for development under tourism what will that money do?, the ministry has a lot to be than the country should also look at our priorities. If we want to generate enough revenue we must increase our revenue base that is what the country must focus on. If we choose to enhance salaries for example the CAOs have been increased from 1.8million to 12 million why don’t we say we are increasing salaries either 30% or 40% across boards so that no complains arise”.
However Shaka Isaac communication officer from ministry of finance planning and economic development states shares that the different reports and recommendation will be vital in formulating the 2026/2027 national budget.
“We take ideas from here, come up with strategy Government direction then we discuss it from here then we add in ideas we may not have seen that they are not going to help us create values and give us result easily. So we want the leaders who are always close to the people to come and we discuss, share, we agree and take that ahead to drive all of us. They are very important because we consult, we listen and we go with dose ideas and those are the ideas that make the national budget”.
The consultations for the financial year 2026/2027 national budget is guided under the theme “full monetization of Uganda’s economy through commercial agriculture, industrialization, expanding and broadcasting services, digital transformation and market access”.
