Friends of Mama Atuneta orphanage center, a charity organization in Koboko District are seeking the intervention of well-wishers in supporting orphans during their 6th edition of the charity drive.
Organized under the theme, “empowering orphans to transform tomorrow,” the 6th edition of the drive is focused on acquisition of land worth 15,000,000 UgShs to ensure the sustainability of the orphanage with a total budget of 25m Sh.
Fiona Apayi, the team lead for the drive says, they aim at empowering orphans to be independent and to be dependent on by similar categories in the future. “We think that if we empower an orphan today, we make them stand on their own and then tomorrow we will not be there to lift them again but instead they will be there to lift the others. We’ve been doing this drive for two months now, we started in May and we are closing it in June and we intent to visit the orphanage on 4th July.” Apayi said.
Apayi is now calling for support from well-wishers to support the cause; “We’re not looking at a particular organization, a particular NGO, but any other person out there can come in, join us. With us nothing is small because when we get a little from you, when we get a little from the other fella, we put it together it becomes big and it can put a smile on an orphans face because nobody chooses to be an orphan and no parent choses to die to leave their children as orphans” She added.
In a similar outcry, Francis Adriko, the general secretary of Mama Atuneta Orphanage center says any form of donations from the public shall put a smile on the face of the orphans.
“We actually need a lot of support in any form you can, the support can be a financial support, and it can be in kind. But like I said apart from what we have been doing in the previous five editions, this edition is more for sustainability so apart from acquiring land, we want to try and skill some of these orphans because we have gotten to know that some of these orphans have finished form four and they can’t be able to proceed with school, so our point is can we skill some of these orphans who after getting these skills can be able to work and earn money that can still be able to support the orphanage?” Adriko noted.
He added that anyone can be able to pick an orphan and pay their school for a whole year or up to the end of any level of studies.
Mama Atuneta Orphanage center with 78 orphans under care through various donations from willing full givers is located in Koboko district, Ombachi Yibongo village.
