Nominations for the local council and women council elections received a massive turn up in Arua city on the fast day of the activity, as aspirants move to the former sub-county headquarters with the necessary requirements to get nominated ahead of their forthcoming elections from the July 28, 2026.
The nominations of candidates are decentralized in the former sub-county headquarters in the city, and sub-county headquarters for districts.
At the former Pajulu sub-county headquarters in Ayivu division, a good number of aspirants showed up for the nominations with their seconders, and the activity was moving as expected by press time.
Irene Naguja, the election officer for Pajulu says, they were in position to do thorough verification to avoid anomalies during the exercise, “The turn up is overwhelming, we expect even the same will continue until the stipulated days, as of now, most of them meet the requirements, we are trying to do thorough verification to ensure that they are really the right people that should be nominated for these elections,” Irene said.
It was the same spirit in the central division as people came for the nominations as expected, and the days exercise proceeded smoothly though the morning hours were disrupted by the early morning rain.
Bilal Siraj Alfa, the supervisor for central division explains that, the turn up for the day one of the activity was unimaginable.
“ The biggest number comes from NRM and independent, for central division, when it comes to the government activities, they are always with that element of coming towards the closure of that activity, but this time round, they have turned up so early, all in all, the activity is ongoing well,” Bilal said.
Abdu Yassin, the incumbent for Arua public cell chairperson, who was nominated confirms his pleasure for the success in the activity, pledging to do more for his cell,
“Am the incumbent and am already nominated, am happy, I will have to encourage them to improve on their income to chase poverty from homes, this is the strategy for this coming election of mine, there are some people that PDM has helped, my role as the chairperson, I will always be with them to always be guiding them, whenever we hear of any bad person in the area, we rise up, we speak One Voice, we don’t want criminality,” said Abdu.
The nominations that commenced on Wednesday July 15, 2026 are expected to continue up to the weekend, and these will be followed by the campaigns of the candidates for the respective positions.
