The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has finally delegated the authority for grassroots mobilization to district and constituency levels, a move aimed at strengthening support among local communities and counter pressure from opposition parties.
Addressing delegates at Eripark Resort in Arua City, ahead of the party’s y presidential candidate,Yoweri Museveni Kaguta’s visit to rally voter support during his campaign, Hamson Denis Obua, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda and the Government Chief Whip, explained that CEC’s decision was also to eliminate opportunists seeking to benefit from limited party resources allocated for grassroots mobilization.
Obua, accompanied by other prominent figures including Richard Twodong, NRM Secretary General; Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale, Director of Finance and Administration; and others, emphasized that, all aspiring candidates under the NRM ticket are required to print posters featuring both Museveni and their images.
He also announced that a voting competition among districts will be conducted, with the winning district to be recognized and rewarded at Museveni’s Victory. “Northern Uganda in terms of campaigns of the NRM candidate, we are going for inter district Voting Competition,” Obua revealed.
Samanya Dramiga, the NRM Chairman of Koboko District, highlighted the emerging challenge of independent candidates in the West Nile region, noting the rise of candidates who are not affiliated with the party.
“Those who lost in the Party Primaries especially at Parliamentary levels, District Chairpersons, Mayors and even Division Mayors and Local Council III levels have planned they are going as independent candidates which is affecting the party leadership. Its bringing division,” Dramiga stated.
According to the NRM, the party secretariat has registered 18 million voters in West Nile, as confirmed by Zaituni Driwaru, an Election commissioner Officerof the party, who expressed optimism that NRM could secure at least 98% of votes in the region.

Richard Twodong, Secretary General of the NRM, urged supporters and aspiring candidates to reconsider running as independents and instead support the party’s official flag bearers to prevent vote splitting.
“Losing an election is both an emotional and painful thing, we’re engaging them, we shall continue engaging them and am happy to report that that quite a good number of them have accepted to work with the party and to support the flag bearers. A few are still resistant and failing to accept we are still talking to them,” Twodong noted.
President Museveni, who is also a candidate in the 2026 general elections alongside other 7 candidates, is scheduled to arrive in West Nile for a campaign rally on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in Pakwachi District. He will then transit to other locations within the region to continue his campaigns.
