The Minister of State for local government, Hon. Justine Namere Nsubuga has officially launched the construction of government roads under the Rural Development and Food Security (RUDSEC) project in the two districts of Dokolo and Lira for this financial Year.
Speaking on Friday at Dokolo Sub County headquarters Dokolo District, Namere urged contractors to do quality work and appealed to the community to give necessary support.
According to Namere government is focusing on improvement accessibility, through developing road network in order to farmers link farmers to better markets for their agriculture products.

Silver Tindizirarira, an assistant commissioner from the ministry of local government said the component in the first phase will be on roads and the second component will be construction of market.
He added that in this first phase they will work on the 12.7km Alwimac–Awiri–Asalim road in Dokolo district and the contract is awarded to JB UNITED construction ltd at the cost of shillings 1billion. Then the 16.3Km Kalongo–Agweng–Barlonyo–Akano–Lwala road in Lira district awarded to Alliance Technical Services at cost of shillings 1.3 billion.
The project is being funded by German government through Kfw Bank. Joseph Jones Ogwal Omara the Area Member of Parliament Dokolo North Constituency said project will help improve access to services. He also brought to attention of the Minister the issue of floods that’s taking away people land.
Meanwhile Sara Agut, the Woman Member of Parliament Dokolo appealed to the awarded contractors not to abandon sites like it has happened to the project of constructing Adok Seed School and Amodo Bridge that connect Dokolo South and Dokolo North Constituency.
Peter Ogwang the, lc5 chairperson of Dokolo District welcomed the project adding that it has come at a right time although he applauded new cabinet of Local government for how they started their with a lot of commitment.
RCM Okello Orik , the lc5 chairperson of Lira District is optimistic that the RUDSEC project of road and market construction shall boost locally raised revue in Lira District once it is completed.
