Police in Arua City have arrested seven youths suspected of involvement in a series of robberies and criminal activities that have recently heightened insecurity in the city Centre.
The suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by security agencies in Arua Central Division in the morning of Tuesday, June 2 2026 at approximately 8:00 a.m.
The operation targeted individuals believed to have been terrorizing residents and businesses within the city.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Andama Jamal, Avaga Innocent, Saidi Ali, Nasib Ajiga, Anguyo Gaddafi, Ajiga Junior, and Shafiq Jamal.
According to police, the group is suspected of being behind a string of thefts and robberies in which residents were reportedly deprived of valuable property, including mobile phones, laptops, bags, cash, and other personal belongings.
West Nile Regional Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Angucia, confirmed the arrests and described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to combat urban crime and restore public confidence in the city’s security.
“We continue to intensify intelligence-led operations against criminal elements that threaten the safety of our communities,” in the city Angucia said.
She also urged young people to engage in lawful and productive activities rather than resorting to crime.
According to the Police, the suspects were found in possession of suspected marijuana and housebreaking implements at the time of their arrest. They have since been charged accordingly as detectives continue gathering evidence to establish their possible links to other reported criminal incidents in the city.
The case has been registered under SD Reference 47/03/06/2026, and investigations remain ongoing.
The arrests come amid growing concerns from residents and business operators over cases of theft and street crime in Arua City’s central business district.
