A message of humility, self-sacrifice and living a life modeled on Jesus Christ crowned Wednesday’s religious profession ceremony of the Institute of Missionaries of Jesus the Divine Master in Arua City, where ten young men made temporary and perpetual vows to the consecrated life.
The celebration, held at the Institute’s Generalate in Ewata, marked a significant milestone in the formation journey of the missionaries.
Six novices made their temporary profession of vows. They included Nicholas Pascanian from Kasese Diocese, Frank Kibira Lubega from Masaka Diocese, Edward Nakweya from Mbarara Archdiocese, Isaac Wagyire from Soroti Diocese, Aniku Michael from Christ the King Parish in Arua Diocese, and Pamphillio Engulu from Soroti Diocese.
Four other brothers—Bro. Emmanuel Alobo from Lira Diocese, Bro. Nicholas Atukunde from Mbarara Archdiocese, Bro. Edgar Brian Omwango from Kenya, and Bro. Emmanuel Lagu from Pakele Parish in Arua Diocese—made their perpetual profession, completing the final stage of their religious commitment before ordination.
Representing the Bishop of Arua Diocese, the Vicar General, Msgr. Kasto Adeti, challenged the newly professed brothers to embrace humility and faithfully live the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience by imitating Jesus the Divine Master.
“Many people call themselves revolutionaries because they have guns, armies and power, but those things are temporary. Let us never think we are greater than others. Are you ready to humble yourself and put humility into practice?” Msgr. Adeti asked.
He reminded the brothers that true greatness in religious life is measured not by authority or status but by humble service to God and humanity.
The profession of vows is an ecclesial event of profound significance in which candidates dedicate their entire lives to the service of God and the Church through the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience.
Rev. Sr. Liberata Mandhawun, Superior General of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church, a sister congregation of the Missionaries of Jesus the Divine Master, encouraged the newly professed brothers to renew their vows daily, even in private prayer.
“Today you have made your vows publicly, and we are all witnesses. My brothers, continue making those vows every day privately, and you will never regret what you have promised today,” Rev. Sr. Liberata advised.
Speaking on behalf of the professed brothers, Rev. Bro. Edward Nakweya, the Formation Coordinator, reaffirmed their commitment to serve wherever the Church sends them while faithfully observing the evangelical counsels.
“We renew our commitment to live the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. We know the mission ahead is demanding, but trusting in God’s grace, we pledge to dedicate our lives to proclaiming the Gospel,” he said.
The ceremony now paves the way for the four perpetually professed brothers to be ordained as deacons on August 1, 2026, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Ediofe, marking the next step in their journey toward priestly ministry.
