Uganda tourism board has given West Nile an opportunity to premier a mega tourism bonanza, a cycling race covering the entire region dubbed, The Nile rise, covering about 900 kilometers starting from Arua city and ending in the city in November this year.
The bicycle race that will begin at the main round about via Ediofe, Onduparaka, Lia, Maraca – Terego up to Adgumani to Pakwach through different places and back to the city covering the entire region will have both local and the international riders.
David Kyasanku, the Arua city clerk confirms this, calling it a big opportunity to sale the region,
“Tourism has come, we are now launching the cycling bonanza in November, we are going to have 900 kilometers cycling for five days, it’s a big thing, so they chose West Nile, these are not things we are used to, there so many International people coming on board, it’s going to sale Arua,” Kyachangu said.
Fred Wathum, the city tourism officer affirms that, preparations are underway to have a regional launch of the race, and International participants are already declaring their participation,
“The root will go a little bit on the marram road so that the bikers get to experience the rural life, the sceneries of West Nile, the different attractions that are in the different local governments, and already preparations are ongoing, there is already a plan to have a regional launch for this cycling event in July in Arua city, so far there are people who are already confirming their participation, this is an event that will bring internationally recognized bikers in to West Nile, and the impact will be great on the region,” Wathum said.
Wathum calls this an opportunity for business, urging the locals to take it up to establish suitable businesses,
This year’s target is to have 50 participants locally and internationally, and the winner will get an opportunity to name one of the Rhinos at Ajai game reserve.
